Campus History:
Founded in 1867, Fayetteville State University is the state’s second-oldest public institution of higher education and is a part of The University of North Carolina system. Originally it opened as the Howard School which was created when two all black school, Phillips and Sumner combined. Howard School was established to further the education of African Americans, but today FSU is open to students of all races. Student Population:
FSU has 39 undergraduate degree programs and 20 master’s degree programs with a faculty-to-student ratio of 1-to-20. Most of these degrees are in the arts and sciences, business and economics, and education. This year the university reached a new record for enrollment with 6,085 students.

Fayetteville State University is located in the southeastern part of North Carolina in Cumberland County, the home of Fort Bragg. The weather in Fayetteville is usually fairly moderate.
